There’s this Saturday I woke up at night as usual, only to go to the toilet and found out I couldn’t urinate.

I immediately called a friend who advise I do some exercise

“jump up and down, do some squats and try to urinate again”… he said

It was after doing that I was able to empty  my bladder a little.

…and immediately after that little ease, I called my wife who rushed me to the hospital.

For 2 days, I was on the hospital bed and couldn’t eat or drink anything.

I was scared, I thought I was about to die.

 I was in tears because the pain at the base of my bladder and my penile area was like someone is adding kerosene to a burning fire. Even My waist was as if it wanted to cut.

 At first, we thought it was an attack until the lab test came out and our family doctor confirmed it’s a prostate enlargement problem…

…and that my PSA size was 148mm which means it was very enlarged.

According to the doctor, we need prepare for surgery if i don’t urinate or pass out faeces the next day; which will make it the 4th day…

he also mentioned another reason the surgery should commence as soon as possible is so the enlarged gland don’t get cancerous.

After giving us other necessary information and also mentioning the price for the surgery.

…the doctor then gave me some drugs to take immediately, including two injections. 

…and then excused my wife and I after advising that I rest well.

After he left, I murmured to my wife surgery is not an option.

She asked why and I explained how my Dad had surgery in this same hospital but died few weeks after due to complications after the surgery.

I can remember She mentioned it’s been years my Dad left us, so its possible they must have improved and I also don’t have the same destiny as my Dad so there’s high chance that I will make it.

Then I mentioned to her that aside my dad, I know two men that have recently died within the space of 3 months due to prostate surgery complications.

The first was a lively member at my POLO CLUB and the second was a parishoner at my parish… we both belong to the Christian Fathers Association in my church. 

Just when she was about to come up with another point, I felt slight pains around my private part and then urine started dropping…

…I mentioned the droppings to my wife and she immediately call for the nurse who helped me to the toilet to completely ease my self.

Although it was embarrassing to urinate on myself at my age, the fact I was able to pass out large amount of urine was a good sign.

So after a few hours, I urinated again and was able to also eat well.

The urine came with some pains still but the ultimate goal was just to empty my bladder.

The cut the long story short, the Doctor came around later that day and based on recent improvements, my wife and I was able to talk him into giving us medications that I can be using temporarily while I source for funds for the surgery.

He agreed and my discharge was scheduled for the next morning which was the day I was supposed to go under the knife if not my recent improvements.

Morning came after a night of frequent and painful urination that gave me no sleep at night…

…however, I was able to get my prescriptions, my wife paid and on my way out of the premises of that hospital; with tears rolling down my face, I prayed to God to help find something that will work for me.
